Youngster with passion for sustainability wins national storybook writing competition
Published: 28-07-2021
- Following the launch of sustainability-themed children’s storybook “A Robot Called B4”, we launched a national competition for children ages 7-11 across the Nation to submit ideas for a sequel, with the winner having their idea made into a book.
- The winning idea, cleverly titled “A City Called L8R”, will be produced in collaboration with its nine-year-old author, Sam, with a limited print run this Autumn.
- The narrative will focus on how sustainability and our actions in the present can help carve a greener future for the next generation.
- We hope that Sam’s passion can inspire children and adults alike to live more sustainably, echoing the spirit of the brand’s commitment to protecting our future.
- Guest judge Angellica Bell and media title First News worked alongside our PR team to select the winner.
We are pleased to announce the winner of our children’s storybook writing competition – nine-year old Samuel Debenham from Northampton.
Chosen by a judging panel consisting of ourselves, along with media title First News, and TV and radio Presenter Angellica Bell, Sam’s entry was awarded first place for its creative view towards a more sustainable future, “A City Called L8R”, and will be produced into a real storybook later this year.
The competition was launched in April 2021 following the release of our own storybook, “A Robot Called B4”, which tells the story of friends Ava and Alfie who, through the discovery of a robot called B4 in a garden shed, travel back through time to the age of dinosaurs to realise how our past actions are destroying the green planet we once knew, before returning home to fight for a better future.
Entries were judged in collaboration with narrator of the“A Robot Called B4” audiobook edition, Angellica Bell, and competition media partner First News’ editor, Nicky Cox.
The winning entry, titled “A City Called L8R”, was chosen for its creative and optimistic view of how the world could work towards a greener future together, through a travel forward into time to a world we could have if we increased our protection of the planet.
Along with a Worcester Bosch goody-bag, which was also sent to four competition runners-up, “A City Called L8R” will be produced in collaboration with Sam into a limited number of physical copies. These copies will be shared with Sam’s family and classmates.
Victoria Billings, Director of Marketing, said: “It has been great to see all of the amazing entries from children across the country since the start of the competition in April.
“We have been impressed and inspired by the passion they’re showing towards creating a sustainable future, and hope that our commitment to warming lives and protecting our future continues to resonate with children and their families across the country.”
Claire Debenham, Sam’s mother, added: “Sam was absolutely over-the-moon when we found out “A City Called L8R” had won.
“It’s great to see his creativity, imagination, and writing ability recognised by Worcester Bosch, and for the important values of sustainability to be encouraged among families and children in such an engaging way.”
